Wine To Water internships are part-time (15-20 hours), unpaid internships located in Boone, NC that give you real world experience in working for a non-profit. From communications, to international operations, development, volunteer management, and administration, interns are a valued part of the Wine To Water team, a critical component to the work, and are highly involved within the organization.

Finance Internships

Gift Entry

The Finance Intern will have two main areas of focus, Gift Processing and Expense Processing. Gift Processing will entail processing donations from the multiple giving platforms we currently have. You will gain experience using other softwares to import data into our accounting software. Also, the Finance Intern will help review and process all Wine To Water staff expense reports. This individual will assist the Compliance Associate in ensuring that expense reports have been accurately reviewed for receipt attachment, correct expense category, and correct amount. The individual must be aware of the importance in attention to detail, this is a crucial element to ensuring our accounting records are properly recorded. The Finance Intern will have a better understanding of nonprofit accounting and how Wine To Water operates on a financial level.

Activities you will perform with this internship include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist and confirm expense reports are recorded accurately
  • Verify documentation needed for each transaction is provided
  • Properly record expenditures in appropriate accounts
  • Communicate with Staff on outstanding expenses & missing receipts
  • Navigate through CRM to import donations into accounting software
  • Reconcile donations to Donation Account within accounting software
  • Assist in Research regarding rules and regulations of 501(c)(3)
  • Run Income Statement Reports
  • Maintain spreadsheet detailing gifts

Requirements:

  • Skilled with Excel and Google Sheets

  • Nonprofit Management, Finance, Business, or Accounting Majors preferred

Internal Audit

In this position, you will assist with business administration regarding both international and HQ finances for a $2M nonprofit organization. This internship requires you to be flexible in this role and be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized.

Activities you will perform with this internship include, but are not limited to:

  • Accessing, synthesizing, and processing confidential records
  • Verifying accuracy of financial records
  • Ensure matching records in Donor System and QuickBooks accounting software
  • Run financial reports and verify that transactions are accurately classified
  • Ensure that printed and digital records are filed for each transaction
  • Provide assistance to interns, staff regarding classifying expenditures
  • Reconcile financial transactions in QuickBooks accounting software
  • Print bank and credit card statements for reconciliation
  • Assist in reconciling accounts monthly and ensure that transactions recorded in QuickBooks accounting software match bank statements
  • Assist with reviewing data for annual audit & tax return and nonprofit certifications

Requirements:

Communication Internships

Graphic Design

This individual will play an integral role in developing dynamic and compelling visual content that helps to tell the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. This position will primarily work in post-production, but may be needed to assist with in-house productions to accomplish the vision of specific projects. Content to be produced with be for web, print and social purposes. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple content elements for a portfolio.

Social Media Marketing

This individual will play an integral role in developing online content through Wine To Water’s social media platforms to tell the stories of the W|W community and individuals whose lives are impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Fellow to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. The ideal applicant will possess a strong knowledge of digital media and unique content creation for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills and respond to audiences comments, messages and inquiries in an ethical and professional manner. The candidate will also have the skills to monitor the successes and failures of W|W’s social media strategy through analytics. The candidate will obtain the ability to create engaging social media content through posts, comments and Instagram/Facebook stories. Web Design

This individual will play an integral role in developing both long and short form written content that tells the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This position will require interviewing subjects in person and by other means. Content to be produced will be narrative storytelling, campaign messaging, social messaging, as well as other promotional materials and press releases. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple short and long-form content pieces for a portfolio.


Fund Development Internships

Filter Build Intern

The Filter Build Intern is primarily responsible for assisting the Filter Build Coordinator in process and initiating communication with potential W|W Filter Build partners. They will assist in managing inquiries and setting up communication (written & verbal) to plan and execute Filter Build events. Using online research tools, the intern will gather important facts and data for strategic partnership communication and input key data into a database using W|W standards. They will leverage W|W platforms such as Basecamp & GiveEffect to keep events organized and key information transparent in process.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Communications-

  • Create response emails that represent the vision and voice of W|W and the Filter Build Program with a high level of professionalism
  • Manage email and phone Filter Build inquiries in a timely manner with a high level of customer service
  • Schedule follow-up phone calls to inquiries and include other W|W Staff/Leadership as appropriate to strengthen Vision Casting and Partnership Development beyond event logistics
  • Communicate the vision of W|W and the Filter Build program to prospective sponsors with professionalism and clarity
  • Maintain timely email and phone follow-up with inquiries and event teams

Maintain Contact Info and Key Data for Inquiries & Filter Build Contacts-

  • Ensure all contact information from inquiries and partners gets into the CRM from inquiry phase to post event gathering of contacts
  • Using online research tools, gather important facts on Filter Build partners and input key data into the CRM using W|W standards

Basecamp Team and Project Coordination-

  • Utilize Basecamp best practice templates to track inquiries and basic information
  • Create Bacecamp projects for contracted events and connect all documents and deadlines including contracts, invoices, shipping info, and event sheets
  • Update and keep information in Basecamp as events change to promote total transparency with Filter Build Team

Event & Logistics Coordination-

  • Compose detailed notes for Event Summary Sheets with event details and coordinate getting this info in a timely manner to W|W Staff and ambassadors representing W|W at events

Requirements:

Campaign and Events Coordinator

The Campaign and Events Coordinator will assist with fundraising campaigns, appeals, and events for Wine To Water. This internship requires flexibility in this role as they move from task to task across different platforms and avenues of contacting supporters. In this role, the intern will need to master our CRM fundraising platform as well as our email marketing system to be a knowledgeable ambassador for our community of passionate fundraisers. This is a great role to engage with our global community of supporters and create a space where people can do good in the world!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Corresponding with campaigners, third-party event hosts, and ambassadors
  • Assisting with event planning & fundraising
  • Managing online campaigns
  • Providing assistance, training, and how-to guides for campaigners, donors, and other interns/staff
  • Sending materials to event hosts/campaigners
  • Tracking campaign stats & running contact reports
  • Post-campaign/event follow-ups and engagement

International Programs Internships

International Programs

Working directly with the Training & Evaluation Manager and the International Programs Fellow, the IPI will assist in a wide array of systems that support the W|W international team at large. This internship will be challenging at times; however, you will gain valuable experience in working within a dynamic team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating travel preparation including mission orders and follow ups
  • Transcribing team meetings and create action plans
  • Communicating with existing strategic partners and potential partner inquiries
  • Supporting filter packaging & shipping deployments
  • Administrative support including data systems management (mWater)

Requirements:

Partner Development Intern

The Partner Development Internship will be primarily focused around partner network development and sustainability. This internship will work directly with the Partner Development Manager and will require a high level of self-discipline, self-motivation, and creative thinking. The PDI will assist in building and maintaining relationships with filter partners as they complete projects around the world. It will also include an element of research into future partners, as we are actively expanding this network, as well as a high level of professional communication in order to begin to foster these new relationships. The PDI will also assist in the general management of our filter partner tracking system and proposal process.

This internship will teach you how to manage an extensive partner network, to research and develop new professional and organizational relationships, to quickly learn and use new skills, and to ultimately be a servant leader. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in managing and meeting deadlines, to sharpen your communication skills, and to hone your business and entrepreneurial skills. Lastly, you will finish with a better understanding of what it means to work interdependently with a team.


Global Experience (GXP) Internships

GXP Assitant Intern

The GXP Assistant Intern assists the Volunteer Program Coordinator with all volunteer pre-trip logistics.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain Global Advocate Applications and Progress
  • Assist in screening GA Applications
  • Emailing reminders for missing parts of applications

Ensure all pre-trip logistics are completed according to the Standard Operating Procedure:

  • Ensure all registrations, medical forms, funds, and logistics are received
  • Send Welcome Packets and other trip communications
  • Assist in scheduling pre-trip meetings
  • Maintain BaseCamp projects for each trip

GXP Engagement Intern

The GXP Engagement Intern is primarily responsible for performing all post-trip requirements upon the return of a volunteer team. This individual is required to create systems to track each teams’ status and engagement progress over time. This position will include:

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure quality and timely post-trip engagement
  • Write and send thank you notes and letters to Global Advocates
  • Send, Receive, and Respond to evaluations
  • Obtain and sending project updates
  • Share necessary information with appropriate staff

Online Course Development:

  • Assist in developing online education for Global Advocates
  • Maintain educational process ensuring deadlines and communications are timely

Create and Maintain communications such as:

  • Information Books for each region
  • 2-page information sheet for each trip
  • Communication website needs
  • Education Resources, etc.

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit professionalism in all communication correspondence
  • Keep manuals, forms, etc. up to date as projects and other information changes
  • Expense Reports
  • Reflect an attitude of teamwork with other interns, in and outside of the GXP
  • Assist with other GXP and office duties as needed
  • Exhibit a heart of service and commitment of the organization's mission

Operations Internships

Operations and Logistics

The Operations and Logistics Intern will work closely with all aspects of shipping and receiving for Wine To Water. They will gain firsthand experience working with different shipping systems and tracking processes. In addition, they will assist with packing, shipping, and inventory of Wine To Water goods as well as office maintenance. This position is very hands on and interested individuals should not be afraid of getting their hands dirty. The Ops & Logistics Intern will assist The Operations Associate with the various tasks required for shipping and receiving. Along with this the operations intern will help with: inventory and asset tracking processes, office material ordering, office organization, and any building maintenance projects.
