Wine To Water internships are part-time (15-20 hours), unpaid internships located in Boone, NC that give you real world experience in working for a non-profit. From communications, to international operations, development, volunteer management, and administration, interns are a valued part of the Wine To Water team, a critical component to the work, and are highly involved within the organization.

Administrative Internships

Nonprofit Administration Intern

In this position, you will assist with business and financial administration for a $2M nonprofit organization. This internship requires you to be flexible in this role and be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. Some of the activities you will be performing with this internship include, but are not limited to:

Wine To Water is seeking a highly committed individual to serve as a Graphic Design Intern. This individual will play an integral role in developing dynamic and compelling visual content that helps to tell the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. This position will primarily work in post-production, but may be needed to assist with in-house productions to accomplish the vision of specific projects. Content to be produced with be for web, print and social purposes. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple content elements for a portfolio. Be prepared to demonstrate examples of your work.

Social Media

Wine To Water is seeking a highly committed individual to serve as a Social Media Intern. This individual will play an integral role in managing the social media channels that help to connect the WTW community and reach out to a broader audience. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop, complete and execute a social media calendar on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals, as well as respond and interact with the WTW social community. This position will be required to be present in the WTW office daily during normal working days. The position will provide the opportunity to show initiative and develop expertise in managing the social media platforms of a non-profit organization.

Writing

Wine To Water is seeking a highly committed individual to serve as a Writing Intern. This individual will play an integral role in developing both long and short form written content that tells the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This position will require interviewing subjects in person and by other means. Content to be produced will be narrative storytelling, campaign messaging, social messaging, as well as other promotional materials and press releases. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple short and long-form content pieces for a portfolio.

Web Development

Wine To Water is seeking a highly committed individual to serve as a Web Development Intern. This individual will play an integral role in developing the website platform that tells the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. They will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity, and storytelling. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original ideas that align with organization goals and are executed on time with attention to quality and detail. The position will provide the opportunity to assist in developing web platforms that can be used in a future as examples of your work. Be prepared to demonstrate examples of your work.

Development Program Internships

Campaign and Events Coordinator

In this position, you will assist with fundraising campaigns and events for Wine To Water. This internship requires you to be flexible in this role and be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. Some of the activities you will be performing with this internship include, but are not limited to: corresponding with campaigners and third party event hosts, assisting with event planning, managing online campaigns, becoming very knowledgeable of our donor and fundraising platform and providing assistance, training, and how-to guides to campaigners, donors, other interns and staff, sending materials to event hosts/campaigners, tracking campaign stats and following up post event/campaign.

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Event planning or fundraising experience preferred

  • Marketing or Communications majors preferred

Community Relations Assistant

The Community Relations Assistant plays a key role engaging donors in the story of W|W. This Intern is responsible for calling donors, inviting donors to events, and sharing with donors updates and information on our clean water programs. The goal of this role is to connect personally with more W|W Donors, learn their stories, and open the door to meaningful conversations about donor interests and global clean water. The Intern will also learn to utilize our database to update donor records and input contact data.

Requirements:

  • Excellent phone communication and customer service and skills
  • Ability to listen and engage people in conversations with sensitivity and respect
  • Precision with data-entry in a constituent database
  • Marketing, Business, Non-Profit Management majors preferred

Donor Relations

In this position, you will assist with donor record management for a $1M nonprofit organization. This internship requires you to be flexible in this role and be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. Some of the activities you will be performing with this internship include, but are not limited to: recording & processing donations, maintaining an accurate database of more than 13,000 supporters, overseeing corporate matching gifts, issuing tax receipts and statements to donors, possessing a knowledge of accounting tags for donations, and collaborating with Nonprofit Administration Intern, Development Intern, and staff for accurate reporting. Requirements:

Grants Assistant

The W|W Grants Assistant will be responsible for research to identify grant opportunities that further the mission of Wine To Water and our international programs. Using online research tools, the intern will research foundations to learn funding priorities and identify potential funding partners. The intern will assist with proposal development, coordinating grant applications, drafting grant proposals, collaborating with projects team members on applications and monitoring deadlines. The Grants Assistant may also communicate with Rotary Clubs to seek funding for W|W.

Partnerships Assistant

The Partnerships Assistant is responsible for communications with potential W|W Filter Build and funding partners as well as research to identify strategic partners, corporate businesses and key donors for Wine To Water. Using online research tools, the intern will gather important facts and data for strategic partners and input key data into a database using W|W standards. The Partnerships Assistant will evaluate partner alignments with Wine To Water and initiate email and conversations for W|W Filter Build events and other funding partnerships.

International Operations Internships

Program Development

The program development intern will work closely with W|W’s development and communications teams by managing documents/systems used to promote international programs, by crafting stories from program reports, and by conducting interviews with key WTW volunteers and staff. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in how to translate their writing skills into multiple mediums. Responsibilities include:

  • Document Management
  • Grant research & Development
  • Conduct pre/post trip interviews with WTW staff and volunteers
  • Craft stories from the information gathered from interviews and program reports
  • Collect media (photo/video) from qualitative reports and organize for Communication team
  • Work closely with fellow creative development and communications writing interns to develop systems and process to increase communication flow Overall requirements:
  • Servant leader, positive attitude, detail oriented, highly organized, and adaptable
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Sufficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Suite (Word), & Medium
  • Preferably a journalism or communications major
  • You will have the opportunity to sharpen your interviewing, writing, editing, and overall communication skills. You will gain valuable experience in managing and meeting deadlines and ultimately come away with a better understanding of how a nonprofit communicates internationally.

Volunteer Program Internships

Student Initiatives Intern

As the Student Chapter Intern you would be overseeing all of the current student chapters in the nation and bridging the gap between those chapters and headquarters.- helping to guide them and their advisers, supporting their upcoming events, and getting them connected to volunteer trips. This position also helps new chapters navigate getting started on their campuses and creating that relationship and connection with them. Recruiting other schools/universities to start student chapters would also be a part of this role.

Volunteer Recruiter

As the Volunteer Recruiter, you will be looking for future volunteers and building relationships with high potential organizations, groups, programs, businesses, etc. seeking to introduce them to Wine To Water and form long term service trip partnerships with them. You will assist the Director of Volunteer Programs with developing a recruitment strategy for the volunteer program and work with the rest of the staff to identify these high potential partnerships.

Volunteer Coordinator

As the Volunteer Coordinator you will be working with all of our current volunteers managing and coordinating all of the steps necessary to get them accepted as a volunteer and onto one of our service trips. You will also be involved with post-trip continued engagement. You will assist the Director of Volunteer Programs with administrative tasks, volunteer communications, and program development, and it will be your responsibility to help keep volunteers and staff informed of changes in the program.

Post-Trip Engagement Intern

The Volunteer Program exists to be one piece of a long-term process of learning the global water crisis, engaging in the culture, and serving in community, which speaks to the importance of this position. The Post Trip Engagement Intern is primarily responsible for performing all post trip requirements upon the return of a volunteer team. This position is required to create systems to track each teams’ status and engagement progress over time. This position will include, but is not limited to, writing and sending out thank you notes, receiving and responding to evaluations, obtaining and sending out project updates, mailing out personal self-written letters, and helping coordinate the logistics for a volunteer reunion.

The Post Trip Engagement Intern will manage all processes with a high level of accuracy and efficiency. They will work closely with the Volunteer Programs Manager and the Volunteer Programs Director to ensure their daily tasks are operating efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, email
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong sense of professionalism

  • Ability to work with confidential documents, using discretion regarding information held

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and continue relationships with volunteers upon return from volunteer trips
  • Ensure that all volunteers are receiving communication upon return
  • Plan, organize and manage all volunteer post-trip logistics (Jotform, BaseCamp, Google Drive, Slack, GivEffect, communication, events, donor systems, etc)
  • Exhibit professionalism in all communication correspondence
  • Attend at least one post-trip event
  • Correspond with Development department on volunteer engagement activities
  • Brainstorm new ideas the Volunteer Program could implement
  • Reflect an attitude of teamwork with other interns, in and outside of the Volunteer Program

Community Well Chocolate Internships

CW Chocolate Assistant

The CW Chocolate intern will work within our Community Well Chocolate program. Wine To Water has started making health conscious chocolate bars in the office kitchen. This program focuses on the production and sales of nutritional chocolate where the proceeds help fund W|W’s water filtration program. This individual will be fully involved in manufacturing and packaging raw chocolate and in promotion of the program via social media.

Responsibilities include:

  • Chocolate production (making and packaging chocolate)
  • Branding research/ development (package design,
  • Social media marketing
  • Product shipping/distribution
