Wine To Water internships are part-time (15-20 hours), unpaid internships located in Boone, NC that give you real world experience in working for a non-profit. From communications, to international operations, development, volunteer management, and administration, interns are a valued part of the Wine To Water team, a critical component to the work, and are highly involved within the organization.

Finance Internships

Gift Entry

This individual will assist with donor record management for a $1M nonprofit organization with more than 13,000 supporters. During the semester, this intern will likely have the opportunity to access, synthesize, and process confidential donor records while processing donations via bank deposit and remote deposit system of cash, check, wire transfer, PayPal, credit card and in-kind donations. They will be tasked with maintaining digital record of donations, and asked to apply correct accounting & development tags to each transaction. In addition to these tasks, they will oversee multi-platform corporate matching gift system, access corporate and third-party giving platforms, analyze reports, accurately record transactions in Donor System & QuickBooks accounting software, as well as maintain a spreadsheet detailing these gifts.

This internship requires flexibility in this role to be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. It is also recommended that this intern is skilled with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, has excellent written communication skills, and is very detail oriented and organized. Nonprofit Management, Finance, Business, or Accounting Majors are preferred for this position, as well as Junior or Senior-level Undergraduate or Graduate students.

The individual chosen for this position will be able to increase their skill level and understanding of Nonprofit Administrative & Development Systems such as QuickBooks (Cloud-Based Accounting Software) & Giveffect (Constituent Relationship Management Software). They will also be able to build valuable experience critically analyzing financial transactions and gaining understanding of nonprofit administration donation and gift entry process

Internal Audit

The Internal Audit Intern will assist with business administration and donor record management for a $1M nonprofit organization. During the semester, this intern will likely have the opportunity to access, synthesize, and process confidential records while verifying accuracy of financial records, ensuring matching records in Donor System and QuickBooks accounting software, and running financial reports. Interns will need to verify that transactions are accurately classified, and ensure that printed and digital records are filed for each transaction. They will be tasked with providing assistance to interns and staff regarding classifying expenditures, reconciling financial transactions in QuickBooks accounting software, and printing bank and credit card statements for reconciliation. They will also have the opportunity to assist in reconciling accounts monthly and ensure that transactions recorded in QuickBooks accounting software match bank statements and review data for annual audit & tax return and nonprofit certifications.

This internship requires to be flexibility in this role to be able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. It is also recommended that this intern is skilled with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, is currently enrolled or has completed an accounting I course, and is very detail oriented and organized. Communication Internships

Graphic Design

This individual will play an integral role in developing dynamic and compelling visual content that helps to tell the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. This position will primarily work in post-production, but may be needed to assist with in-house productions to accomplish the vision of specific projects. Content to be produced with be for web, print and social purposes. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple content elements for a portfolio.

Writing

The Writing Intern will play an integral role in developing both long and short form written content that tells the stories of the WTW community and the individuals whose lives are being impacted through clean water initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Communications Director to conceptualize, develop and complete projects on deadline, collaborate with the Communications team regarding strategy and tactical implementation and adhere to rigorous standards of quality, creativity and storytelling. This position will require interviewing subjects in person and by other means. Content to be produced will be narrative storytelling, campaign messaging, social messaging, as well as other promotional materials and press releases. This individual will be expected to show initiative in producing original content that aligns with organizational goals. The position will provide the opportunity to complete multiple short and long-form content pieces for a portfolio.

Fund Development Internships

Campaign and Events Coordinator

The Campaign and Events Coordinator will assist with fundraising campaigns and events for Wine To Water. This internship requires flexibility in this role and the able to move from task-to-task while remaining organized. This intern will have important responsibilities including, but not limited to, corresponding with campaigners and third party event hosts and chapter leaders, assisting with event planning, managing online campaigns, becoming very knowledgeable of our fundraising platform and providing assistance, training, and how-to guides for campaigners, donors, other interns and staff, sending materials to event hosts/campaigners, tracking campaign stats, and following up with groups post event/campaign.

This individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be very timely and organized, and have the ability to collaborate, as well as to work independently. It is preferred that applicants are pursuing a major in communications or marketing and have event planning or fundraising experience.


International Programs Internships

International Programs

The International Programs Intern will working directly with the International Programs Director, assisting in a wide array of systems that support the W|W international team at large. This internship will be challenging at times; however, you will gain valuable experience in working within a dynamic team. This individual will have the opportunity to facilitate travel preparation including mission orders and follow ups, transcribe team meetings and create action plans, communicate with existing strategic partners and potential partner inquiries, support filter packaging & shipping deployments and provide administrative support, including expense reporting, budget tracking, and analytics.

This individual must have a heart of service, positive attitude, must be very detail oriented, highly organized, and adaptable. It is asked that they have sufficient understanding of Google Sheets, Microsoft Suite (Excel), and Basecamp (task management system). All majors are welcome to! This internship will teach you how to adapt, quickly learn and use new skills, and to ultimately be a servant leader. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in managing and meeting deadlines, to sharpen your accounting and communication skills, and to hone your business and entrepreneurial senses. Lastly, you will finish with a better understanding of what it means to work interdependently with a team.


Volunteer Program Internships

Volunteer Program Assistant

This individual will assist the Volunteer Program Coordinator with all volunteer pre-trip logistics. This includes screening all volunteer applications as well as overseeing the intake of all registration forms, references, medical notes, finances, and flight information. This individual will also ensure that all welcome packets are sent in a timely manner and all social media communication is up-to-date.

Volunteer Program Assistant

This position will assist the Volunteer Program Director in a variety of areas. One of the primary responsibilities of this position will be overseeing all of the student clubs in the nation and bridging the gap between those clubs and headquarters. They will helping guide each club and their advisors by supporting upcoming events and connecting them to volunteer trips. This position also helps recruit and establish new student clubs from other universities. The secondary responsibility of this position is to implement a general recruitment strategy for the Volunteer Program. An additional aspect for this position will be assisting in the integration of Volunteers into the overall strategy of our international programs.

This individual must have a positive attitude and must be detail oriented with good multitasking and organizational abilities. It is asked that this person be a self-starter, and thrive in independent working environments. Administrative experience and excellent writing, editing, and communication skills are preferred. Applicant must have college experience.

Volunteer Engagement Intern

The Volunteer Engagement Intern is primarily responsible for performing all post-trip requirements upon the return of a volunteer team. This individual is required to create systems to track each teams’ status and engagement progress over time. This position will include responsibilities such as writing and sending out thank you notes, receiving and responding to evaluations, obtaining and sending out project updates, mailing out personal self-written letters, and helping coordinate the logistics for a volunteer reunion.

Volunteer Program Communications

The Volunteer Program Communications intern will be primarily responsible for implementing the communication strategy for all the volunteers who come through the program. This will be in integration with Fund Development and the Communications departments. Scribing emails, making phone calls and designing necessary media to strengthen on-going relationships with volunteers.


Operations Internships

Operations and Logistics

The Operations and Logistics Intern will work closely with all aspects of shipping and receiving for Wine To Water. They will gain first hand experience working with different shipping systems and tracking processes. In addition, they will assist with packing, shipping, and inventory of Wine To Water goods as well as office maintenance. This position is very hands on and interested individuals should not be afraid of getting their hands dirty.

It is asked that this intern has a basic understanding of Excel, good communication and organizational skills, pays fine attention to detail, is hard working and has a good attitude and thirst for learning new things.
