UWP & W|W Team up to serve those in need in Puerto Rico
Uganda Water Project,
On behalf of the W|W Community, we would like to thank you for your support. The following is a summary of the work that W|W has conducted in Puerto Rico:
A total of 200 water filters were distributed to the people of Yacucoa & Humacao. W|W partnered with a University of Toledo medical mission team by integrating the filters into a 1 week clinic in the area. The medical mission team received training on filter care & maintenance prior to departure. Upon arrival, the medical team treated over 1500 patients and trained 32 medical professionals on proper filter implementation. Several filters were also attached to public tap stands that allowed for increased safe water access to the surrounding community. Lastly, in order to ensure the longevity of the public tap stand filters, the local police were also trained on proper filter care and maintenance. In total, over 4000 individuals were served with safe drinking water through UWP's support!
W|W Colombia National Program Manager, Jhonny Anderson, was already in Puerto Rico when hurricane Maria struck. Once the storm broke, Jhonny immediately took his personal sawyer filter to the town center and started filtering water for those in immediate need. In the following weeks, W|W equipped Jhonny with additional filters so that he could effectively train and network with local organizations who could reach more people in need.Although people are still without electricity, potable water, or even stable homes, this tragedy has allowed for many people and organizations from across the world to come together to support those in need.
