Willow Creek Quarterly Report
Dear Willow Creek,
On behalf of the W|W Community, we would like to thank you for your support. The following is a summary of the work that you have contributed to:
In April, May and June of 2017, Wine To Water and Willow Creek helped to construct wells and latrines as well as distribute ceramic water filters to individuals living throughout the Kompong Thom, Svay Rieng, and Benteay Meanchey provinces of Cambodia. In total, 2,451 individuals benefitted from these technologies this quarter.
In these provinces, 13 wells were dug, providing a reliable water source for dozens of families, including the pupils of a secondary school. Along side of this, 150 ceramic filters will provide individuals with clean, safe water for years to come. The construction of 9 latrines improved the hygiene and sanitation for families in need.
Due to years of civil war and genocide, much of the Cambodian population still struggles with water access and improved sanitation. Families in poverty often gather their water from polluted sources, leading to the spread of infectious disease. More than 10,000 Cambodians die from water-related illnesses each year, many of them children under the age of 5.
Cambodia is one of W|W's longest running project sites. Over 35,000 Cambodians now have access to clean water and/or improved sanitation through the efforts of the Wine To Water community.
In 2017, WTW will continue working in the three provinces of Svay Reing, Banteay Meanchey and Kompong Thom. We will bring safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to children and families that are suffering from diarrhea and other health issues due to water contamination.
Field Note #130: Mr. Ny's Influence in Cambodia
The first time that I met Mr. Ny, even though we didn’t speak the same language, I could tell he was a strong man of God who was dedicated to serving his community and the fellow people of Cambodia. I met him in the Svay Rieng province at one of Kone Kemg’s drilling sites. He is the leader of the drilling crew in Svay Rieng and Prey Veng. Mr. Ny is also in charge of building all of the latrines and the components of the latrines. I was impressed by Mr. Ny and his one helper who did all of this work for their people. Under Mr. Ny’s instruction, hundreds of wells and latrines have been constructed in the Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces since 2013, truly transforming people’s lives...
