Field Note #24: No More 4 Hour Wait
September 27, 2016
In early September 2016, a volunteer team of 10 members, went to Nepal. We traveled to the Chitwan National Forest to work in the small community of Jhuwani. There was already a well in this community, but if you were part of the lower/untouchables caste, you had to wait your turn to be able to use the well.
A woman from the lower caste shared with us that she had to wait 4 hours everyday just to use the well, even if she got there first. Our WTW Nepal team, along with the volunteers, decided to dig a well on her side of the street for these folks. Imagine having 4 hours of freedom added to your day!
