Field Note #98: Interconnected in Nepal
There are times in life when I feel so disconnected; I feel far away from the people around me, and it feels difficult to find a common ground. Traveling with Wine To Water brings me home. That might sound strange because I'm halfway around the world serving with people that I've never met before and that are so different from myself. Yet, at the exact same time, I am reminded of our sameness. I connected with our mahout (elephant driver) today in a way that really brought joy to my heart. Dinod barely spoke English, but there we were, throwing elbows and laughing, enjoying each other's company. In the same world that I sometimes feel incredibly alone in, I was reminded today of how interconnected we all are. I am very grateful for that experience.
